A great big shout out to Firebird raceway and the drag race crew. The new racing surface is smooth as glass! I ran 7.60's to 7.70s. Track was perfect until a Monsoon dust storm blew in and dusted the track. A few more weekends of racing to get some more rubber down and the track should be perfect!

Congrats to Blake Williams for his win in Super Pro over Dan Livesey.

That's good to hear. My car is just about back together and should be firing the engine next weekend. Barring any unforeseen problems I should be making some test passes in 3 weeks.

I agree Bruce- track was great till the dust came. I give them an "a". Now .... I know it cost alot of money to get the track done, are they saving some money by not turning all the lights on ? Sure seemed dark all night. Looking foreward to racing on the track more.

The racing surface was exceptional for me, even after the dust. My quickest 60' (1.235) and et (9.015) was my first time run in the left lane, just before the sun set and the temperature was still 106 and the density altitude was a touch over 5000'. My next four runs were in the right lane, where my 60' stayed within .001 (1.241 to 1.242).

Props to Chuck and his crew, who worked their asses off in the heat.

I lost to Dan Livesay, who did a nice job of driving against me, on a .002 breakout in the second round. Hey, this emoticon looks like my son looked after I got back to the trailer when I lost!lol

I think there were only 10 or 12 S/P cars, not sure about Pro, Sportsman or Motorcycle. The car counts will rise when the weather cools off and more racers hear about all of the positive changes happening at Firebird. I also look forward to the next few races out there.

Hey, Ryan, I didn't notice it being any darker than normal out there, but it might have been. You HAVE been running at SIR, haven't you? It's easy to get spoiled with all the lighting down there!

Congrats, Blake!!

It was pretty dark in the turn around area at the bowl.
Sometimes I feel like I'm driving around there like Guy, using the brail method.LOL
Looking forward to the next team race.

I thought the track was great. I got my first Team Firebird Race Win. I think we had 15 Pro cars. Had a little help, when Mike Gonnell and Bob Kullberg's cars didn't make it to 1st round.
See you next race! 17 cars with Bob and Mike.

Brian, I know for sure the lights were not on at the finish line. No complaint, just noticed few little details. The staging lanes were dark for sure. I had a good time. Congrats to Nic for his second final in two races. Good job.

Thanks

Sportsman winner was Ken Passerby over Steve Gant and Motorcycle winner was Steven Davis over John Coburn. The points have been calculated and are posted on the team site. http://www.teamfirebird.com/Series.aspx?acct=2

Ken, gates opened at 5pm first cars down track at 6pm Dust storm blew in at about 8PM just before run for the money. Took about an hour for the storm to pass and then clean up the track.
Race was over around 1AM

Track may not have as good as lighting as SIR but is more than adequate.
Do not understand the issue with the run for the money?? Just the way it is. Just because other track's do it differently??

Do not have to be a team FB member for full winnings.

Yes It will be hot.
Don't know about you, but as soon as I start my car, all heat/cold discomfort goes away. Win lite looks just as good under the Goodyear bridge as along the SIR guardrail.

Stay cool!

Isn't the next team race the National Dragster Challenge? Are the rules going to be the same as pasted years? In past years, if you not a team member, you had to run in the gambler

Think so, lost all the weight off one wheel & there was a bad tire, out of round. Don't know why their didn't see that at first. Got a new tire & their rebalanced the wheels
